Winnie and Andrew's Wedding
12 Jun 2011
As I have said earlier in my previous blog posts, dealing with multicultural is part of my job, it is interesting to see how different cultures plan for their wedding. Andrew and Winnie are both originated from Hong Kong, although they are being married here in New Zealand, they still planned their wedding using the traditional Hong Kong style. The actual progress of the wedding is not that much different from a normal european style'd wedding, the main differences are that in the morning, the groom will go to the bride's house instead of going to a church or a ceremonial venue.
Winnie wore a very traditional red chinese wedding gown in the morning waiting for Andrew's arrival, upon Andrews arrival, it is also mandatory to stop him from entering the door until he passes various of abusive games conducted by all the bridesmaids. These games are completely random and how cruel it goes really depends on what the bridesmaids has setup to do. It is interesting to see the various tests that Andrew has to go through before he can go through the door.
Ceremony is again a traditional Hong Kong "tea ceremony" where both Andrew and Winnie has to kneel infront of the elders and present tea to them, and in exchange the elders will present them with various gold related gifts and accessories such as necklaces and bracelets which also represents their blessings to their marriage.
After the tea ceremony, both Winnie and Andrew changed into the european styled wedding dresses and we went to a nearby reserve to take some nice location photos. It is my first time dealing with so many bridesmaids and groomsmen which makes the photoshoot a very fun and relaxing one.
Thank you once again for having us on your wedding day Winnie and Andrew! Wishing you all the best in the future!!
