Peter & Melanie Wedding

7 Jun 2011

My apologies for not having my blog updated for a while. I have been quite busy with various of things work and non-work related.  If you have been following my blog, you will notice that there is a new look to this blog as I have recently done a full update of my current website. Now you should be able to find everything within the main website, and if you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please feel free to email me on andy@drawphotography.com

Peter and Melanie held their wedding on the 5th of March 2011 at Bridgewater Estate, it was suppose to be a bright and sunny summer day, but being in Auckland, the weather has a mind of its own. In the morning the sky looked dark and gloomy, it put me off quite a bit as I really wanted to utilize the beautiful surrounds of the venue to take some nice pictures. Oh well, not much can be done, I comfort myself by saying that at least you going to get beautiful soft light. Melanie and the family were getting their prep done in a guest room inside the estate, upon my arrival, it started to drizzle….

I didn't have too much time to worry about the weather as my mind was busy checking out the prep room filled with gorgeous decors which made my preparation shot a breeze, and having to work with a room filled with girls, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 yes 7 girls and a bit of bubbly and some funny stuff on the bed... I had to lie to say I don't enjoy my work :)

Rain gets heavier...

As I am busy drinking and working my way through my shot list, all the girls are busy prepping and before they knew it we only had about 10 minutes left before the start of the ceremony, by that time, Melanie haven't even put on her gown yet. "Oh well, they just have to wait, they can't start without me" - Quote Melanie.

Okay now it is really raining hard…

The ceremony was initially planned to be held in front of a small chapel inside the estate, but due to the unforeseen weather, the couple has reluctantly moved the ceremony underneath a marquee. Melanie looked absolutely gorgeous walking down that isle. If you ask me which part of the ceremony I love the most, I have to say the moment when the father hands his precious little girl to the man that she is about to marry. Peter and Melanie kept the ceremony nice and brief. The guests were served with canapes and drinks after the ceremony and we headed off to have the photos taken.

Having previously scouted the location, I know exactly where to go in the Estate for the photos, however rain was a big problem, it gets on Melanie's pretty dress, hair, and also on my lens. The rain drops made auto focus of the camera work extra hard, and towards the end of the shoot I had to use ISO800-1000 purely because the amount of available light there is due to the rain.

However I am happy to say that although it was a raining day for a wedding, I am still quite happy with the shots that came out at the end, it is unique and special, not your ordinarily "blue sky sunny day wedding photos" that you see quite often. Thanks again for having me Melanie and Peter! Wish you guys all the best!
